Week of September 30

CONCERT DATE CHANGE! NOTE THAT THE CONCERT IS NOW ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 14 AT 7:00 PM. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW IN CLASS.

Beginning Orchestra--This week we are working on establishing posture and playing first notes–open strings and D major scale. New skills–string crossings, double stops. New songs–Allegro & Perpetual Motion.  Work on Elevator and Escalator patterns as we continue to learn the notes on the fingerboard. Practice your note reading in the Essential Elements book.

Philharmonia Orchestra– We will work on tone exercises, scales, and music in class. We are working on Brandenburg #5, Path to the Pacific, and Vortex. We will start to do small ensembles with the Brandenburg and exercises from pages 20-21 in the Essential Techniques book 3. Be sure to practice a minimum of 120 minute each week and submit on Charms.

Philharmonia (First block)–We are continuing to work on our concert music. In particular, work on C# and G# and other accidentals in the music. Students have been given a rhythm study guide. We will be having a rhythm quiz next week as well as a playing test on concert music. Students should be practicing 120 minutes a week and submitting practice on Charms.

Sinfonia Orchestra- We will work on tone exercises, scales, and music in class. We are beginning with Contrasts in E Minor and Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen. Be sure to practice a minimum of 120 minute each week and submit on Charms.

Chamber Orchestra–We will work on tone exercises, scales, and music in class. We are working on Simple Symphony–Movements 3 & 4 and Of Glorious Plumage, and Lyric Metal. Start working through all orchestra pieces for GMEA–Fanfare, First Essay, Smooth, & Rhapsody in Blue. Be sure to practice a minimum of 120 minute each week and submit on Charms.
