AP Music Theory–Quiz for accuracy of key signature naming
Scales–Major/minor, Meter–simple/compound, intervals, triads, and 7th chords. Add Chapter 4 material–Chords in a diatonic key.

Chamber Orchestra–Big week ahead! January 23–Perform Prayer at MLK assembly.
January 25–Perform at the GMEA conference. We have worked toward this all year! Good luck!

Sinfonia–practice your LGPE music–Artemis Rising, Great Gate of Kiev, and Rhosymedre. Pay particular attention to intonation. Record yourself so you get a better idea of how you sound.

Philharmonia–practice your LGPE music–Agincourt, Finale from Beethoven 9th, & Jupiter. Practice the following scales–A minor (a b c d e f g a), Eb Major (Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb).

Week of December 11

1st Period–Practice music for your concert. We will perform on Thursday, December 14 at 8:45 a.m. in the orchestra room

Sinfonia Orchestra–start working on the new music your were given for LGPE

Philharmonia Orchestra–start working on the new music your were given for LGPE

 

Holiday Showcase

The Holiday Showcase is December 2. We have a busy day, but it is always great fun! Spend time to make ALL of your music concert ready! Details for the day are below:

Philharmonia

1:15—Be dressed and in orchestra room for tuning—Tuning stations will be set around the room. Please sign in on the appropriate sheet for your orchestra.

1:50—Seated in the orchestra room ready to go to the PAC
Concert begins at 2:00 pm. You are the second group to perform.

At the conclusion of the concert, be sure to put away your instrument. Do not leave in PAC or in the classroom floor. All instruments must be put on a rack or in a locker.

Sinfonia

Full Orchestra

3:00—Be in the band room ready for warm up.
We will monitor the concert to see when it’s time to go to the stage.

Cello Choir

Be in the PAC lobby at the conclusion of the 2 pm concert. It should be finished around 3:30 pm (or shortly after) We will play our 3 holiday tunes and Bile Them Cabbage, & Dill Pickle Rag

Fiddle Ensemble

Be in PAC lobby by about 3:45. We will play as soon as the cellos finish. You will play Jingle Bells Hoedown, Wayfaring Stranger, Sally Goodin’, and Millionaire’s Hoedown.

Chamber Orchestra

4:00—Be dressed and in the orchestra room for tuning.
4:30—You must be seated in the PAC at the start of the concert. You will be the third group to perform—Bel Voce (chorus), Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra. We will end with combined Wind Ensemble & Chamber for Sleigh Ride.

At the conclusion of the day, be sure all instruments are stored in the Orchestra room, OR take it  home with you. Also, we must clear the stage of chairs and stands after the concert. It will not take long if everyone participates.

Chamber Orchestra–playing test due by Friday, November 17–Fugue 54-56
Friday, November 17–concert for East Cobb 8th grade orchestra–during class time. Music will be Ghosts of Brandenburg, Lion City, Pirates, Praeludium & Allegro, Winter, Prayer, and Romanian Folk Dances

Sinfonia Orchestra–Playing test due by Friday, November 17 on Rhosymedre
Practice the following music: Rhosymedre, Yuletide Carols, & Declarations

Philharmonia Orchestra–Playing test on concert music, due by Friday, November 17
Practice the following music: Boreas, Palladio, & Fantasia.

Chamber Orchestra–work on Bloch–Fugue sections 54-56. Continue practicing Ghosts of Brandenburg, Lion City, Vivaldi–Winter, Bloch-Prayer, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Sinfonia Orchestra–3 octave scale test on Wednesday–G and C major. Practice the following music–Rhosymedre, Yuletide Carols, & Declarations.

Philharmonia Orchestra–3 octave scale test on Tuesday & Wednesday. Practice the following music: Boreas, Fantasia on a 17th Century Tune, & Palladio.
